New Orleans Chair Caning & Rush Weaving is an extension of Dan Alleger Custom Woodworking in New Orleans, LA. The workshop specializes in furniture refinishing and restoration as well as custom built furnishings. As you can imagine, that means I see a lot of chairs come in that are falling apart. |

| A few years back, one client asked if I could reweave the cane seat in his gooseneck rocker after refinishing it. I explained to him that caning wasn't really something I did, and he suggested that perhaps it was time to learn! With that small bit of prodding, I was off into the world of seat weaving. It wasn't long before I also began more complicated cane weaves as well as rush weaving. | |||||
I take a lot of pride in my work. I don't take shortcuts, and I don't rush any job. I believe that every project should be done the right way from start to finish even if it means taking a few extra days to do it. I use the best materials available and use traditional methods and tools whenever possible. Thanks for visiting the site!

After a few years of practicing the craft of seat weaving, it has served as the perfect compliment to the other services provided in the shop. I have had clients from Florida to California ship their chairs and antiques to me to restore and reweave cane or rush seats.
